Senior Fellows to Host “Invisible in Austin” Authors Nov. 5

On Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, the Senior Fellows Honors Program will host a panel discussion with the co-authors of “Invisible in Austin: Life and Labor in an American City,” a local bestseller by award-winning University of Texas at Austin sociologist Javier Auyero and a team of his graduate students.

According to Auyero, Austin bills itself as a mecca of live music, hipster weirdness and high-tech innovation. He says that beneath this narrative of vitality and growth is one of economic disparity and racial and ethnic segregation. “Invisible in Austin” tells the stories of people living this other Austin experience, and our panel of the book’s co-authors will discuss how they helped tell them and why they matter.
