Victoria (Tory) Reddy Newby

Victoria (Tory) Reddy Newby is a 2001 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin (BS Communication Sciences and Disorders & BA Spanish). As an undergraduate, she served in many University organizations, including Communication Council, President of the National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA), Longhorn Band, Chair of the Texas Exes Student Chapter Postcard Project, Resident Assistant, and Orientation Advisor. Her undergraduate CSD professors inspired her in the classroom, and it was working with children and adults with communication disorders and multi-handicaps at Camp Easter Seal in Virginia (2000) that gave classroom lectures meaning and purpose. During her graduate school years in "the bowling alley", Tory served as a teaching assistant for Dr. Dena Granof and worked as a research assistant with Dr. Liz Pena's and Dr. Lisa Bedore's Clinical Research Training Grant (BCRT).

In 2003, Tory received an MA in Speech-Language Pathology, Multicultural/Bilingual Specialization. For two years post-graduation, Tory worked as a multi-disciplinary bilingual speech-language pathologist at Manhattan Center for Early Learning in New York City. Upon returning to Austin in 2005, she worked with children ages infant through middle school at Starbright Pediatrics. Sitting on the other side of the mirror, Tory also served as a clinical supervisor during the summer of 2007 at the university's Speech and Hearing Center. Today, Tory serves on the Executive Board of Literacy First, part of UT Austin's Charles A. Dana Center. She is both an active alumni and active mother of three, who continues to be passionate about the mission and impact that the Moody College of Communication, and primarily, its Communication Sciences and Disorders Department, creates each day. She is honored and thankful to be a part of the Communication Advisory Council.
