The Texas Program in Sports and Media was created in by Dean Roderick Hart in 2009, formed to address contemporary issues of sports, media and society, and was disbanded to give way to the Center for Sports Communication & Media when Dean Jay Bernhardt created it in 2017. Founding members of TPSM's board of advisors were Cappy McGarr and Dr. Steven Ungerleider.
