Mary Bock

Mary Bock, Associate Professor and Graduate Advisor, School of Journalism and Media

Student nomination: "Dr. Bock has been a fundamental part of my journey here at UT. She taught my freshman Plan II TC class and throughout the class, she remained dedicated to fostering a commitment to civic engagement and a deep understanding of democratic values. After my first semester with Dr. Bock, she was enthusiastic about bringing me into one of her research projects focusing on the portrayal of women in journalism. I’ve been working for Dr. Bock for almost two semesters and she has been informative and caring the whole way through. She is more than just my employer—she always makes sure to check in on her students and assistants and genuinely cares about their learning and well-being. She is also extremely open to allowing me to explore new ideas and letting me try things on my own. For example, even though it was my first time doing academic research here at UT, she nonetheless has incorporated me and my ideas in every step of the research process. I cannot recommend her enough."

Robert J. Quigley

Robert J. Quigley, Professor of Practice and Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, School of Journalism and Media

Student nomination: "I have been personally helped by professor Quigley. As someone who did not come from a school that had opportunities in journalism I felt very underqualified to even be in a journalism course. However even though I did not have any experience, he was part of the team from the Hi How Are You Project that hired me to be a social media reporter for them at this years ACL. This is my first job in journalism, and I feel so blessed to be given a chance and be seen."

Associate Professor in the Stan Richards School of Advertising & Public Relations Yeonsoo Kim

Yeonsoo Kim, Associate Professor, Stan Richards School of Advertising & Public Relations

Student nomination: "Dr. Kim is the most amazing professor. She cares for and understands the needs of every single one of her students. She teaches in a way everyone understands, and in a welcoming environment where we are all engaged. I am grateful to have her as my professor."
