Ava Motes

Ava is a junior journalism and Plan II major who is passionate about feature writing. She works as a contributing writer for Edible Austin, where she covers emerging restaurateurs and local food history. She also writes and edits stories for the alumni community as an intern at the Alcalde. In the past, she has been a life and arts reporter for The Daily Texan, focusing on live music and Pride events. Ava is a die-hard outliner and can talk story structure all day. She also loves using quotes and details to bring sources to life on the page.

In her spare time, Ava enjoys crocheting by the TV, reading historical fiction, making chaotic playlists and exploring new recipes. Ava’s budget is often torn between her dirty chai addiction and growing vintage clothing collection, but she knows where to find good deals in town. As an Austin native, she is happy to couple her writing advice with local recommendations.
