September 2023

Center for Ethical Leadership in Media moves under Moody umbrella

The Center for Ethical Leadership in Media, a well-established center providing crucial leadership training to journalists and journalism students nationwide, became part of Moody College in 2023. Its online curriculum educates journalists and students on the fundamentals of leadership so that they can produce compelling content and become effective newsroom leaders.

Radio-Television-Film hosts first Game Audio Con

The Department of Radio-Television-Film invited students and professionals to the first-ever University of Texas at Austin RTF Game Audio Con, sponsored by Dolby and Motion Picture Sound Editors, where they discussed the craft of video game audio.

Moody College celebrates 10 years

Last year, Moody College celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Moody Foundation’s $50 million transformational gift that gave it its name. In the past decade, it has helped to transform the college into what it is today, supporting faculty and graduate student research, helping provide the most up-to-date technology and collaborative spaces for students, and establishing and supporting 14 centers, institutes and programs that provide world-class teaching, scholarship and public service.

Moody College honors supporters at Friends of the College

Moody College gave five awards to alumni, staff and community members at the 2023 Friends of the College dinner. The event, held each fall, brings together faculty, staff, students, alumni and supporters to celebrate accomplishments from the past year.

Moody College welcomes new dean

The University of Texas at Austin selected Rachel Davis Mersey to serve as the seventh dean of Moody College. Mersey, who holds the Everett D. Collier Centennial Chair in the School of Journalism and Media at UT, had served as interim since June 2023. She has since taken on the role of interim vice provost for the University.

Renowned photographer Eli Reed ‘lives in the moment’ — and he thinks you should too

The world-renowned photographer and retired clinical professor in the Moody College of Communication School of Journalism and Media said this personal golden rule has helped him produce photos that capture raw moments of people facing injustices around the world. Reed's work was displayed in the School of Journalism and Media Photo Gallery last year.

Moody College organized panel on the creator economy at SXSW

At this year’s South by Southwest Festivals, Moody College organized a panel about the creator economy with talent managers, producers and executives sharing what it takes to be successful today as a digital influencer.

April 2024

UT hosts campuswide solar eclipse party

On April 8, nearly 70,000 students, faculty, staff members and visitors were invited as a community to view the once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse. UT held a party called Total Eclipse of the Horns with viewing locations across campus, including on Moody College's Walter Cronkite Plaza.

Texas Speech wins national championship

The University of Texas at Austin Texas Speech team, housed in Moody College’s Department of Communication Studies, has amassed several national championship wins and too many top-ranking individual awards to count. This year, they again won the national championship at the 2024 American Forensic Association National Speech Tournament, the third consecutive year they’ve taken home this title.

May 2024

Class of 2024 gets long-awaited graduation

More than 1,100 students received diplomas at the 2024 Moody College Graduation Ceremony. Many in this year’s graduating class finished their high school years in 2020 during the pandemic and could not have traditional commencement ceremonies. The event was emotional and long-awaited, with Alison Eakle, chief content officer for the production company Shondaland and radio-television-film alumna, sharing remarks.
