About the Minor

The Advertising minor is open to all undergraduate students, excluding ADV and P R  majors, who are following the 2026-2028 catalog and have completed ADV 318J with a minimum grade of C-.

Applications will open in August 2026.

If demand exceeds space available, the Moody College reserves the right to select students based on a review of their academic record, prior coursework or a secondary application.

  • The Advertising minor requires a total of 15 hours of coursework.
  • Nine hours of course work must be taken at the upper division level and in residence.
  • All courses must be taken for a letter grade. Only courses with a grade of C- or better will be counted towards the minor.

Students pursuing the Advertising minor under the 2026-2028 catalog are responsible for the following requirements:

Requirement 1: ADV 318J Introduction to Integrated Brand Communication

  • Must be completed prior to applying for minor. A grade of C- or better is required.

Requirement 2: 12 hours of any ADV courses

  • Major restrictions and prerequisites will be enforced.
  • No more than three hours of ADV/P R 378S Special Topics in Sports Media may be counted towards electives.
  • At least 9 hours of electives must be upper division.

In addition to specific course requirements, students must also fulfill the hour totals for overall, in residence, and upper division coursework as well as meet the grade minimums for each minor course.

The Advertising minor is open to all undergraduate majors, excluding ADV and P R majors, who are following the 2026-2028 catalog. Admission to the minor requires completion of ADV 318J with a minimum grade of C-. 

Eligible Catalogs: 2026-2028 (Published in Fall 2026)

Students enrolled in ADV 318J should apply after grades are posted.

Please note, in order to complete the Advertising minor, students MUST be following the 2026-2028 catalog for their major. This new catalog, which will be published in August 2026, may have significant changes to major, college and other minor requirements. 

Any questions regarding catalog requirements should be directed toward a major academic advisor after the Fall semester begins.
