Academic Advising

Drop-In Advising

Drop-in Advising is available to Moody College students Monday – Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Central Time) On Fridays, drop-ins will begin at 9:30 a.m. (Central Time), and on Tuesdays drop-ins will pause from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The drop-in advisor may not be your assigned academic advisor. Drop-in advising should be used to answer quick questions and should not last more than 10-15 minutes. If the drop-in advisor feels you need more time, you may directed to schedule an appointment with your assigned academic advisor.

To see the drop-in advisor in person, you may join the In-Person Drop-In queue from the check-in kiosk at DMC 2.600. After you join the queue, you will receive instructions through text, so please watch your phone! Be sure to arrive early to make sure that you can be seen before drop-ins end at 4:00.

To see the drop-in advisor on Zoom, you may join the Virtual Drop-In Advising queue. (Do not click on a "General Help" queue. You can join the Virtual Drop-In Queue directly.) After you join the queue, you will receive instructions through text, so please watch your phone!

Students will be seen in the order in which they joined either queue. Be sure to join the queue early to make sure that you can be seen before drop-ins end at 4:00.

We encourage you to protect yourself and your advisor by wearing a mask while you are in the Student Advising Office.

If you are encountering technical difficulties using the Qless system, be sure you’re using the Chrome or Firefox browser. You may contact our front desk for help troubleshooting: (512) 471-1553.

SCHEDULING ACADEMIC ADVISING

You should meet with your academic advisor at least once per semester to review your academic progress and receive important information and advice related to your studies and overall student experience. Schedule a planning session during the middle of the semester to avoid peak advising periods when advising time is in high demand due to registration.

We have launched a new appointment scheduling tool so that you may choose to schedule an in-person advising meeting or a virtual (Zoom) advising meeting. (Some advisors may offer only virtual meetings.)

Log on to STAR

If you schedule a virtual appointment, your confirmation email will include the link where you may join your advising appointment on Zoom. If you schedule an in-person appointment, please arrive at DMC 2.600 before your appointment time and use the kiosk to join the queue called “Check-in for a Scheduled Appointment” and wait for your advisor to call you to their office. You will receive reminder emails one day and one hour before your scheduled appointment. You may schedule an advising appointment no less than 24 hours in advance.

We encourage you to protect yourself and your advisor by wearing a mask while you are in the Student Advising Office.

Please be on time for your advising appointments, as the Student Advising Office enforces a ten-minute rule for scheduled appointments. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you may be asked to reschedule.

Non-Moody students who are interested in transferring into the Moody College and would like to meet with an academic advisor must attend an internal transfer information session before they may meet with the Internal Transfer advisor during their posted internal transfer advising hours.

If you have trouble making an appointment through STAR, or if you are a Moody student who is not authorized to use the system, please email us at commstudentadvising@austin.utexas.edu.
