Bachelor of Journalism Degree Requirements
The Bachelor of Journalism degree prepares students to work in traditional and new media roles. Students start with foundational classes that include media law, print journalism and digital content creation. Later, students have the opportunity to pursue a degree path that fits their specific interests in writing, broadcasting, social media, photography, audio storytelling and more.

A specific combination of coursework in English, Government, American History, Math, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Fine Arts.
Major requirements
- Students must complete 42 hours in journalism, but no more than 48 journalism hours may be counted toward the degree.
- J 302F, 304F, 310F, and 311F must be taken in residence at UT Austin.
- J 310F and J 311F require a grade of at least a B-.

- Language and Culture Requirement
- 6 hours of Communication Foundations: COM 301E and COM 302E.
