Notes from a ‘Third Rate’ Reporter
AUSTIN, Texas – March 29, 2017 – The University of Texas at Austin Moody College of Communication will host alumna and The New York Times national political correspondent Amy Chozick on Thursday, March 30, 2017 in the Belo Center for New Media second floor auditorium (BMC 2.106) at 3:30 p.m. After a brief introduction by School of Journalism Director R.B. Brenner, Chozick will deliver her speech titled, “Notes from a ‘Third Rate’ Reporter: Journalism in the era of Trump, Twitter and Alternative Facts.” The event is part of the annual William Randolph Hearst Fellows Award Lecture series and is free and open to the public.

BACKGROUND: Amy Chozick is a political reporter for The New York Times who specializes in writing about Hillary Clinton and her family. While in high school, the native of San Antonio discovered a program where she could receive academic credit writing for the San Antonio Express-News, which she did for a year. Chozick graduated from UT Austin in 2001 and subsequently worked in a variety of publications in New York City looking for her big break in journalism. She joined The Wall Street Journal in 2003 and authored her first articles on Hillary Clinton in 2007, leading to a position as member of the traveling press of both Clinton and Barack Obama in 2008. Chozick joined The New York Times in 2011 to report on corporate media and was promoted to The Times’ political team in 2013 to focus on Clinton and her family. Chozick is also a frequent contributor to The New York Times Magazine.
