MEDIA ADVISORY: Denius Symposium on News Integrity takes place Oct. 21

AUSTIN, Texas ––Oct. 21, 2015--The Moody College of Communication will host the inaugural Denius Symposium on News Integrity on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015 in the Belo Center for New Media, featuring panelists from Politifact, NPR and The Dallas Morning News. This symposium will stir conversations among key players in the media about the future of journalistic content and values.  

Panelists will include:

·         Angie Drobnic Holan, editor of Politifact. Holan helped launch the site as a reporter in 2007 and was a member of the Politifact team that won a Pulitzer Prize for the coverage of the 2008 election.

·         Lisa Myers, Emmy Award-winning investigative journalist who recently left NBC News after 33 years. Myers recently served as the NBC News Chief Congressional Correspondent and covered nine presidential campaigns.

·         Mike Wilson, executive editor of The Dallas Morning News and veteran of the Tampa Bay Times. Wilson worked at Nate Silver’s side when his statistics-driven blog moved from The New York Times to ESPN.

·         Keith Woods, vice president of diversity in news and operations at National Public Radio. Woods was previously the dean of Poynter Institute for Media Studies faculty.

·         Regina Lawrence, symposium moderator and newly appointed director of George S. Turnball Portland Center, which is part of the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication.
