JAMA Editor Howard Bauchner to Deliver 2015 McGovern Lecture

AUSTIN, Texas – March 23, 2015 -- The Moody College of Communication Center for Health Communication presents the 2015 McGovern Lecture, featuring Howard Bauchner, M.D., Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from 4 – 5 p.m. at the Belo Center for New Media on campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Bauchner is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and will present “Medical Journals as Communication Networks” as part of the McGovern lecture series in Health Communication.

JAMA is the most widely circulated medical journal in the world with more than 320,000 recipients of the print journal. In the lecture Dr. Bauchner will discuss the responsibilities of journals to accurately present information.

BACKGROUND:  Bauchner is a pediatrics and community health science professor at Boston University Schools of Medicine (BUSM) and Public Health, as well as the vice chairman of the pediatrics department. He is also assistant dean, in the alumni affairs and continuing education department at BUSM. Bauchner has served as editor-in-chief to JAMA since July of 2011 and has published over 125 peer-reviewed papers in academic journals, mainly on clinical trials and health promotion.
