MOODY COLLEGE IS #1 FOR A REASON

As we reflected on the past year — the stories, milestones and achievements of our students, alumni, faculty and staff — one theme stood out: Moody College is always evolving.
In that spirit, we’re ready for what’s next.
Why? Because we’re committed to meeting the demands of a dynamic job market, rapid technological advances and, most importantly, the needs of our students.
At Moody, we prepare students to thrive in emerging industries while shaping them into informed citizens and civic leaders. During the 2024–25 academic year, we made great strides in offering students real-world learning and access to industry tools and technologies that support their academic foundation.
Our faculty are guiding students into the future of entertainment, research and AI; helping them master visual storytelling; coaching them through professional campaigns in advertising and public relations; and preparing them to serve patients of all ages through speech, language and hearing sciences.
Meanwhile, our staff are helping students achieve academic success and discover interesting experiences and meaningful career paths. The communication skills they learn at Moody College set them up for greatness.
There’s so much more ahead — and we’re grateful to everyone who’s been part of the journey.
A message from the Interim Dean
Dear Moody College friends,
To say that the past year at Moody has been exciting is an understatement. We’ve welcomed new faculty, unveiled new academic programming, celebrated several outstanding milestones and so much more. While these achievements are thrilling on their own, I’m most proud of what each of them means for our students — that they have the greatest opportunities to learn from the best and be as prepared as possible for their future careers.
Moody College has always focused on providing University of Texas students with foundational learning along with immersive and experiential opportunities that put their knowledge into practice. We fully believe in the importance of offering students a strong theoretical, historical and contextual basis for what they learn, in addition to the hands-on practical skills they need to succeed.
I’m confident that we’ve built on those principles over the past year, and we will continue to do so, meeting the interests of our students and advances in technology. Strong communication skills will always be in demand, and Moody is uniquely positioned for the future.
As you read this year’s Impact Report, you’ll see exactly what I mean. We’ve launched a new minor in sports broadcasting and production and opened the Karch Gaming Institute. Our faculty are conducting groundbreaking research, and transformational gifts ensure that we can keep building on an already strong foundation.
To that end, our student success stories continue to inspire. In Fall 2025, we welcomed our largest incoming class ever. This speaks volumes to the importance and excitement surrounding our programs. Perhaps most impressive, over 82% of students who begin their studies at Moody graduate within four years. This is the second-highest graduation rate at UT Austin. A staggering 70% of those graduates report being employed or in graduate school within six months.
These successes aren’t ours alone; they’re yours, too, as a valued Moody College supporter. We pride ourselves on the many ways our faculty and staff go above and beyond to support and mentor our students, but we wouldn’t be able to provide such assistance without your backing. I’m grateful to each of you for supporting Moody.
It’s been a joy for me as interim dean to experience the growth and landmarks of the past year and to brainstorm new frontiers for the college while witnessing the achievements of our exceptional students. The future is bright for Moody College, and we are ready for whatever comes next!
With best wishes and hook ’em,
Anita Vangelisti

A message from the Chief Development Officer
To our Moody College supporters,
In a year marked by profound change across higher education and here at The University of Texas at Austin, with new leadership at both the university and college level, Moody College of Communication has not only adapted but thrived.
Thanks to your extraordinary support, we raised just under $36 million in philanthropic contributions this year, nearly doubling our $18 million goal. This generosity reflects confidence in our mission and our ability to lead through transformation with strength, imagination and purpose.
One of our most exciting developments this year is the establishment of the Karch Gaming Institute. This groundbreaking initiative positions Moody College at the forefront of leadership education in interactive media, gaming and the social dynamics that shape digital environments. With deep ties to industry and the academic freedom to explore the cultural implications of gaming, the Karch Gaming Institute will offer students unparalleled opportunities to innovate and lead in one of the world’s fastest-growing fields.
We are also proud to share that the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation made a renewed and expanded investment in Camp Dream. Speak. Live., our nationally recognized summer program that empowers children who stutter to find their voice. This crucial support allows us to serve even more children and families across the globe, expand research and training for clinicians, and build on our leadership in inclusive communication education.
Beyond these signature investments, we are deeply grateful for the ongoing support that powers our core mission — support that ensures Moody students have access to scholarships, mentorship and hands-on learning opportunities; that enables our faculty to pursue research at the frontiers of communication, media, health and democracy; and that fuels programs that connect our work to communities across Texas and around the world. Your generosity sustains the vibrant academic and creative environment that makes Moody College a leader among public communication colleges.
These milestones are emblematic of a larger truth: In a time of institutional transition, our community remains unwavering in its commitment to educating the next generation of communicators, storytellers, researchers and change-makers. With interim Dean Anita Vangelisti at the helm, we are poised to increase our reach, strengthen our programs and deepen our impact like never before.
We are immensely grateful to our donors, alumni, parents and partners whose investment fuels every breakthrough. As we look ahead, we are energized by your continued belief in Moody College and by the extraordinary momentum you’ve helped build.

Giving back to
where it all began

Austin in the ’70s was buzzing with history in the making: Vietnam War protests, the newly minted 18-year-old vote and political upheaval. All this as a young Bill Mintz walked into Journalism 322 at The University of Texas and found himself swept up in the fast-paced, boots-on-the-ground world of The Daily Texan. The experience gave Mintz the foundation for what would become a long and successful career in journalism, writing for major outlets such as The Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News. But despite the bylines and accolades, one thing lingered in the back of his mind for decades: he never officially earned his degree. Fast-forward, and that unfinished chapter has a new ending. Mintz crossed the stage at the 2025 graduation ceremony — more than 50 years after first enrolling at UT — proving that some stories are worth the wait.
His return to the Forty Acres began not as a quest for closure, but with a gift: a $250,000 donation to the Texas Student Media Excellence Fund, the largest individual alumnus contribution in the organization’s history. “We are equally blown away by Bill’s generosity and excited about the opportunities this gift creates,” said Gerald Johnson, Moody College’s executive director for innovation and partnerships. Johnson says that Mintz’s generosity will support Texas Student Media in powerful ways, from boosting student wages and funding travel, to elevating broadcast quality with cutting-edge HDR cameras, or even launching a new media entity.
“Not finishing my degree was a regret,” he admitted. “It didn’t hold me back professionally, but it always stayed with me—it was personal.”

Looking ahead
Moody College: above and beyond for student success

From the time students step into their first courses at Moody College, our faculty and staff encourage them to think ahead to where they want to be after graduation. Our goal is to ensure students are ready for what’s next.
Certainly, the multitude of immersive experiences and hands-on opportunities offered at Moody help prepare students for their careers — be that shooting a sporting event for Bevo Video Productions or interning for an ad agency in New York with UTNY — but our classes do, too. Our curriculum sits at the intersection of theory and practice, demonstrating what is known about a given topic and then asking students to put that knowledge to practical use.
In addition, we make sure career development is embedded in our curriculum from the start. Our foundational courses provide a perfect example. In Comm 301E, our introductory course for all first-year students, students begin mapping their academic paths to professional goals. By the time they reach Comm 302E, Interdisciplinary Communication Foundations, they’re mastering resumes, crafting elevator pitches, practicing networking and more. And the Moody Career Center team is with them each step of the way.
We’re intentional about ensuring students don’t leave their futures to chance. While our disciplines span journalism to radio-television-film to speech, language and hearing sciences, one priority unites them: producing exceptional communicators. No matter what the future holds, this is inarguably a timeless skill.
With employers increasingly focused on behavior-based interviews and real-world problem-solving, Moody grads stand out, not just because of what they’ve learned, but how they express themselves. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers Job Outlook 2025 survey, 80% of employers today are seeking candidates with strong teamwork skills, 70% specifically highlighted the need for those with strong written communication skills, and over two-thirds of employers sought employees with strong verbal communication skills.
That’s why we don’t ask what students can do with a communication degree: We ask, what can’t they do?
No matter their paths after Moody, our students consistently demonstrate drive, creativity and resilience — qualities that lead them to build remarkable futures across industries and around the world. From producing award-winning films and launching startups to shaping public policy and amplifying voices through journalism and advocacy, Moody graduates are making their mark. As we reflect on the past year and look ahead, we remain committed to sharing their stories of impact, innovation and leadership.
