A Story of Stories: The Texas Border Barrio Life and Writings of Doña Ramona González

Imagine the excitement of finding a “magic box” full of your grandmother’s extensive writings that speak of her childhood and youth she experienced 100 years ago. University of Arizona author and researcher Cristina D. Ramírez happened to find such a magic box. Her family uncovered 750+ writings by Doña Ramona González, who was one of the first Chicana writers of the 1970s to publish their work in El Grito, the first research and literary journal spurred on by the Chicano Movement. Dr. Ramírez will discuss her book, A Story of Stories: The Texas Border Barrio Life and Writings of Doña Ramona González (Trinity University Press, 2024) that is based on her grandmother’s writings.
