Internal Transfer Requirements

Congratulations on your internal transfer admission to the Moody College of Communication! 

We look forward to welcoming you to the Moody College. We will host a Welcome to Moody celebration at the start of the semester. Please monitor your email for details later this summer.

We know you're excited to start planning next steps, but you will not be able to meet with a Moody Advisor until you have completed all steps listed below. Once all steps are complete, our advisors will be available for brief, schedule-related questions beginning on July 27, 2026. Advising will be offered on a drop-in basis only, either in-person or online. Please read this page thoroughly and follow the instructions to prepare fully to meet with an advisor. 

**These steps are intended only for students who have already applied and been accepted into the Moody College of Communication through the Internal Transfer application process. If you are a currently enrolled student who has not yet been accepted through the internal transfer application process, do not complete these steps. In order to finalize your internal transfer to Moody, you must complete all the following requirements through these steps:

  1. Fill out the Major Change Form located in your Internal Transfer Student Portal that you can access by clicking or tapping here. Your confirmation to either add or replace your major should reflect what was selected in your application. This must be completed by August 3, 2026.
  2. Read through the information related to Moody general education requirements. This must be completed by August 3, 2026.
  3. Read through and become familiar with the information related to your Moody major. This must be completed by August 3, 2026.
  4. Complete the Moody College Internal Transfer Acknowledgement here.  This must be completed by August 3, 2026. After you complete steps one through four, you will be cleared to be allowed to meet with a Moody advisor; this is not an automated process, so there will be a slight delay between the time you complete the steps and you are able to meet with an advisor.
  5. Drop-in advising is available starting July 27, 2026 if you have urgent questions regarding the Fall 2026 semester. Follow these instructions to visit drop-ins. **If you have not yet completed steps one through four, you may not be seen by an advisor.**
  6. If you are new to Moody, you should enroll in COM 301E for Spring 2027. You CANNOT take COM 301E this fall - please do not email the professor for permission. You will only be able to access COM 301E during spring semesters, so it's IMPORTANT that you add it for Spring 2027. If you do not add it and pass it successfully (a C- or higher) in Spring 2027, your next opportunity to take COM 301E will be Spring 2028. Not completing this requirement in a timely manner could delay your graduation. You should then plan to take COM 302E immediately following successful completion of COM 301E.
  7. Make an appointment to see a Moody Academic Advisor after September 9, 2026.  You will be granted access to our appointment scheduling system after August 3, 2026, and after completing all above steps. During a scheduled appointment, an academic advisor can help you with degree planning which we cannot cover during a drop-in meeting.
  8. If you accept this major change and do not enroll at UT Austin for the Fall 2026 semester, your major will not change, and you will need to reapply during the next application cycle.
