Dr. Robert Carroll is an assistant professor of instruction in the Department of Communication Studies and a Lecturer in the McCombs School of Business. He has spent the last 10 years coaching, advising, and educating college-aged students and executive clients across the US. In addition to his teaching and administrative responsibilities at UT, he serves as an MBA+ Communication Coach for the McCombs MBA Program and is an Associate Speaker Coach for an international consulting firm.
Dr. Carroll’s research focuses on family, health, and diversity issues. Specifically, he is interested in how family dynamics shape our identities and the stories we tell. His dissertation explored LGBT+ coming out narratives and he has also published work in Communication Education. Lastly, he has presented at numerous national conferences and has been awarded a top paper award for his work on “How Cancer Affects Us.”
Dr. Carroll received his Ph.D. in Interpersonal Communication from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to UT, he received his B.A. in Communication and M.A. in Higher Education from the University of Missouri. After graduating with his M.A., Robert worked full time as a Program Advisor at Temple University in Philadelphia and as an Academic Advisor at the University of Kansas.
