How are you using the skills that you learned at Moody in your current position?

The most valuable skill Moody taught me was how to think critically. Working in entertainment publicity, there are no two days that are the same so being able to strategically pivot when thrown a curveball is of the upmost importance.

Can you talk about your career path?

Gaining real world PR experience while studying at Moody was a priority of mine, so I sought internships every semester including the JO Agency in Forth Worth and Bread and Butter in Austin. During my final semester of college, I made a friend in my capstone campaigns class (hi Emily!) who recommended me for an internship in BECK Media and Marketing’s entertainment division. That internship confirmed my love for all things pop culture, and I was hired for a full time position just before graduation. Starting as an Account Coordinator, I was promoted to a Junior Account Executive, and then Account Executive over the course of approximately two years. I worked on accounts such as Facebook Watch’s “Red Table Talk,” and the production companies A. Smith & Co. Productions (“Hell’s Kitchen,” “American Ninja Warrior”) and Magical Elves (“Top Chef,” “Nailed It!). I then made the move to Los Angeles with the support from BECK, and was promoted to Senior Account Executive shortly afterward. After almost a year of living in Los Angeles, I made the transition from TV to music after accepting my current role as Senior Publicist at full coverage communications where I represent music artists across various genres.

Do you have a favorite project you worked on at your job?

I enjoy working with all of my artists and love the variety each one brings — from album campaigns, award shows, tour press, brand deals, and more, I am always learning something new and expanding my skill set.

Don’t miss an opportunity by not pursuing it because you feel unqualified. Explore every avenue and every dream. Don’t tell yourself no and dismiss what could be a life-changing milestone because you got in your own way. Make them tell you no.

What advice do you have for #TEXASMoody students?

“Make them tell you no.” When applying for internships and jobs (or going after any goal), don’t miss an opportunity by not pursuing it because you feel unqualified. Explore every avenue and every dream. Don’t tell yourself no and dismiss what could be a life-changing milestone because you got in your own way. Apply anyway and make THEM tell you no.

What classes/professors helped the most?

Shoutout Gary Wilcox!

What do you miss most about Moody College?

I miss all the wonderful friends I made during the seemingly countless group projects we were assigned. While I still keep in touch with most of them, there was something special about us all living in the same city, working the toward the same goal.
