Google Supports Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas' Latest MOOC

AUSTIN, Texas — Dec. 4, 2013 — Noticing a lack of Spanish-language Web content, Google is supporting the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas in promoting the creation and development of digital journalism projects in Spanish. With the support of Google, the Knight Center is offering a massive open online course (MOOC) titled "Development of Journalistic Projects for the Web: an Introduction to Entrepreneurial Journalism."

More than 5,000 people from 48 countries have registered for the Spanish-language MOOC, which began Nov. 18 and will conclude Dec. 15. The instructor is U.S. journalist Janine Warner, an expert in digital technologies and author of 25 books on the topic.

Google's support will allow the course to be complemented with a scholarship to recognize the best projects developed or perfected during the MOOC. The Google-Knight Center scholarship will be offered to at least six participants from Latin America and will consist of a trip to Austin to attend two digital journalism conferences that the Knight Center will host in April 2014.

"Development of Journalistic Projects for the Web: an Introduction to Entrepreneurial Journalism" is the Knight Center's seventh MOOC. Since offering its first MOOC in October of 2012, the Knight Center has reached 27,000 people from more than 150 countries.

Although the Knight Center's MOOCs are free, the Knight Center charges $30 for certificates of completion.
