About the Minor

The Sports Production and Broadcasting minor is open to all undergraduate students following the 2024-2026 catalog and who have completed SPB 301 (or COM 317).

Applicants need to plan for a minimum of 4 long semesters to complete the minor. Applications will open in August 2025. 

If demand exceeds space available, the Moody College reserves the right to select students based on a review of their academic record, prior coursework or a secondary application.

  • The Sports Production and Broadcasting minor requires a total of 15 hours of coursework.
  • Nine hours of course work must be taken at the upper division level and in residence.
  • All courses must be taken for a letter grade. Only courses with a grade of C- or better will be counted towards the minor.
  • The minor will take 4-5 long semesters to complete. No summer courses will be offered.
  • No course substitutions will be accepted for prescribed minor coursework.

Students pursuing the Sports Production and Broadcast minor on the 2024-2026 catalog are responsible for the following requirements:

Requirement 1: SPB 301 (or COM 317) Introduction to Sports Production and Broadcasting I1

  • Must be completed prior to applying for minor. A grade of C- or better is required.

Requirement 2: SPB 302 (or COM 314) Introduction to Sports Production and Broadcasting II2

Requirement 3: SPB 322 Storytelling in Sports Production and Broadcasting

Requirement 4: 6 hours chosen from the SPB elective list

  • SPB 370 Advanced Topics in Sports Production and Broadcasting (any topic)

     

1 Students who completed COM 317 Introduction to Sports Production and Broadcasting prior to Fall 2025 do NOT need to take SPB 301. 

2 Students who completed COM 314 Introduction to Sports Production and Broadcasting II prior to Fall 2025 do NOT need to take SPB 302.

The Sports Production and Broadcasting minor is open to all undergraduate majors following the 2024-2026 catalog. Admission to the minor requires completion of SPB 301 (or COM 317) with a C- or better. Applicants need to plan for minimum of 4 long semesters to complete the minor.

Students enrolled in SPB 301 (or COM 317) should apply after grades are posted.

A student's major college may have additional criteria they must meet in order to pursue a minor. Prior to applying, students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor in their own major to discuss how the minor fits into their degree plan.

The application for the Sports Production and Broadcasting minor will open in August 2025.
