About the Minor

The Media and Entertainment Industries minor is open to all undergraduate students except RTF majors who have an overall GPA of 2.5 at UT Austin. 

If demand exceeds space available, the department reserves the right to select applicants based additional factors such as GPA and prior coursework taken.
  • The Media and Entertainment Industries requires a total of 15 hours of coursework
  • Nine hours of coursework must be taken at upper division level.
  • Nine hours of coursework must be taken in residence.
  • All courses must be taken for a letter grade, unless the course is only offered on the pass/fail basisOnly courses with a grade of C- or better will be counted towards the minor.
  • Courses that appear in multiple groupings may only be counted once.
  • Admission to the minor does not guarantee a seat in RTF courses.

Internship Courses

Only three credit hours of internship will count towards a minor. If a student chooses to take a six credit hour internship course, the three extra credit hours will count towards overall degree totals. 

UTLA & UTNY 

No more than  to six credit hours of approved electives completed through UTLA and UTNY may be counted toward the minor.

The Media and Entertainment Industries minor is open to all undergraduate students EXCEPT RTF majors following the eligible catalogs. The minor application criteria requires an overall GPA of 2.5 or better at UT Austin.

Eligible Catalogs: 2018-2020, 2020-2022, 2022-2024 and 2024-2026

Students enrolled in their first semester at UT Austin should apply after grades are posted.

A student's major college may have additional criteria that they must meet in order to pursue a minor. Prior to applying, students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor in their own major to discuss how the minor fits into their degree plan.
