Preparing Our Workforce

Moody College supplies students with the skills they need to succeed.

New Program Connects Students with Top Employers

The Career Center has launched its new Corporate Colleagues Program, which connects Texas and national employers directly to Moody students, faculty and staff. By providing annual support, Corporate Colleagues work in collaboration with the Career Center staff to host programming at Moody College, which help companies educate and recruit students to develop the knowledge and skills needed for current business practices. Students reap the benefits of support, many leveraging their participation in panel sessions, on-campus activities, and industry round tables to gain internships and job opportunities.

“Our Corporate Colleagues prepare Moody students to be the best candidates possible by sharing industry trends, best practices for the application process, and new guidelines for interview preparation. Their insight and advice are crucial for students seeking opportunities in the competitive communications workplace.”

Our New Virtual World

Moody College Assistant Professor of Instruction Dina Inman Ramgolam began preparing more than five years ago to teach a course about virtual work. It was set to begin enrollment in the fall of 2020. “The pandemic hit in March, and it was instantly full,” Inman Ramgolam reflected. “I don’t think students would have been drawn to it so much without having experienced what we experienced.” Working Virtually has been offered three semesters and teaches students how to interview online, work across time zones and build community from behind the screen. Students who have taken the class are better prepared to enter our new work world.

“I enjoyed my experience in the class because it was extremely relevant for the time we are living in today. Virtual work is something that is new to all of us, and although there is a lot more to learn, the skills I gained in the class will definitely help me in the work force.”

— Critica Coomar, B.A. in Advertising, Class of 2021

The Lab Gives Students the Real-Life Agency Experience

Pulling off a successful communications campaign requires expertise from many different departments — from account services and creative to strategy, media and public relations. Students from the advertising and public relations school now have the opportunity to fulfill these various roles as they work together on an integrated communications campaign for a real-life client. The experience is called The Lab, the reimagined capstone course for advertising and PR students. Each class operates like an independent agency, with students from every discipline flexing their skills in everything from data analysis to art production. They have access to a new, open-concept collaboration room with state-of-the-art technology on the fourth floor of the G.B. Dealey Center for New Media, with ample space to meet with clients. In its first year, Lab students worked with 15 companies, including Dell Technologies, Amazon, Kendra Scott and Circuit of the Americas, among others, and took home several awards, including an ADDY for a campaign for Alpha 180, an outpatient addiction treatment program based in Austin.
