Internships for Academic Credit

Moody College of Communication Internship Courses for Undergraduate Credit

Undergraduate students who wish to earn academic credit for an internship must apply for permission from their academic department to register for an internship course. Each department in the Moody College offers its own internship course with its own prerequisites. The courses are overseen by an instructor in the department who may require the student to attend class meetings, provide examples of completed work, keep an internship journal, etc. For information specific to your department, please follow the links below.

Advertising and Public Relations students should see the internship webpage for the Stan Richards School of Advertising and Public Relations for instructions and deadlines.

The Moody College provides a common application and timeline for students seeking internships in the following departments.

Journalism (J 360F/160G)
Radio-TV-Film (RTF 330L/178)
Communication Studies (CMS 301 or 370K)
Communication and Leadership (CLD 351)
Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD 370)
Communication (general) (COM 350/178)

Questions about which internship course you should take, how it will count toward your degree, the process to earn academic credit, etc. should be directed to your academic advisor.

If you are wondering what kind of internship is appropriate for academic credit, how the course will be graded, course assignments, etc., please ask the course instructor.

Information about what requirements a host company must meet in order to host an intern and details on how to publicize your internship opportunity to Moody College of Communication students can be found here.
