Returning Students

Procedure for students who left in good academic standing

If you previously attended UT, but were not enrolled for the previous fall or spring semester, you must apply for readmission, pay an application fee, and submit any necessary transcripts. Application materials must be submitted by the posted application deadline. You will follow the readmission guidelines for "former UT students". To be eligible to reenroll, a former student who has subsequently attended another college must submit an official transcript from each college showing a grade point average of at least 2.50 on a 4.00 scale for all transferable coursework he or she has undertaken since leaving the University. Allow up to 2 weeks for UT Admissions to process your application, longer if you submit it close to the deadline.  Submitting your transcripts along with your application allows it to be processed faster.

Procedure for students returning from first academic dismissal
(lasting one long-session and any intervening summer session)

If you wish to return to the University after your dismissal period ends, you must apply for readmission through the UT Admissions Office, pay an application fee, and submit any necessary transcripts. You will need to meet with your academic advisor prior registration to discuss remaining degree requirements, academic strategies, and removal of any registration advising holds.

Procedure for students returning from second academic dismissal (lasting three calendar years)

If you wish to return to the University after your dismissal period ends, you must 1) apply for readmission and 2) submit an appeal to the College of Communication Student Deans for permission to return.

You may apply for readmission through the UT Admissions Office, pay an application fee, and submit any necessary transcripts.

You may submit an General Appeal/Petition form to the Moody College of Communication Student Deans. Please include your contact information, the semester you wish to return, and any information concerning your academic circumstances you wish to be considered regarding your readmission request.

Under certain circumstances, you may be granted an appeal to return before the end of the three-year dismissal period, if you raise your UT GPA to at least a 2.0 overall while on dismissal. This may only be achieved by registering for online coursework through the University Extension program. Course work taken at other institutions, including community colleges, does not factor into your GPA, even though it may count towards your degree. You may only appeal for early reentry after your UT GPA is at least 2.0.

Procedure for students seeking to return to UT from a third academic dismissal

A third academic dismissal is considered a permanent dismissal from The University and you are ineligible for reentry.
