Texas Student Media is the "Uncensored Voice" of the United States' largest student body—the University of Texas at Austin.
TSM is composed of several student-produced media properties: The Daily Texan newspaper; the humor magazine Texas Travesty; the Cactus yearbook; KVRX 91.7 FM; Texas Student Television (TSTV), and the alternative news site Burntx.com. We also run Longhorn Life, a staff-run and student-staffed lifestyle insert, and a team of student and professional advertising salespeople.
The Daily Texan
The Daily Texan is the largest and most award-winning college publication in the nation, and our alumni have won 12 Pulitzer Prizes. You can pick up our print product at newstands around campus and visit us at thedailytexan.com. We publish 5 days a week and our papers are always free. The Daily Texan has tryouts for open positions once each semester. The Fall 2017 tryouts will be held starting in late August 2017.
KVRX aspires to play "none of the hits, all of the time." The UT student-produced programming airs on the FM dial between 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. during the week and between 10 p.m. and 9 a.m. on weekends. We're online 24/7 at kvrx.org. Any current UT-Austin student can become a DJ. Simply email email@example.com if you are interested, and we will get you trained and on the air as soon as we can.
The Travesty, UT’s official humor publication, has been voted "Best Non-Chronicle Publication" by the Austin Chronicle seven times and nominated for Best Sound Mixing at the Academy Awards every year since the paper’s founding in 1997. Download and submit our application at Texastravesty.com.
Texas Student Television, or TSTV, is the nation’s only student-run, FCC-licensed television station. We have been producing and distributing the best student-made video content on campus for more than 25 years, and we’re available on Dorm Channel 15 and Antenna Channel 29.1, or online at watchtstv.com. At the beginning of the semester we hold an open general meeting where any interested potential volunteers can meet our current staff.
The Cactus has been known for excellence since 1894, and consistently wins honors in state, regional and national contests. Looking to work on the oldest UT publication? Visit cactusyearbook.com/apply and be a part of history.
Burnt X an alternative news site and TSM's newest entity. Burnt X is digital first, and engages with people wherever they are, including snapchat, yik yak and other social media platforms. Visit us at burntx.com
Longhorns are living large! Longhorn Life is a lifestyle publication run by TSM’s professional staff. We focus our themed editions on how students spend their time when they're not in class. You can find us within the pages of The Daily Texan about 4 times a semester or online at longhornlifeonline.com.
