The Texas Voting Summit is an invitation-only, two-day event hosted by TX Votes in partnership with the Annette Strauss Institute, Campus Vote Project, The Democracy Commitment, and Campus Compact. Invited students and faculty members from Texas colleges and universities will attend the Summit to learn about Texas’ low civic participation rates and then they will develop or update campus plans to increase campus and community civic participation rates.
The Texas Voting Summit will feature the following opportunities:
- Voter Registration and Election Process Panels
- Instruction on best practices for voter education
- Campus plan workshops
- Networking with Texas elected officials and national organizations
- Connections to the voter registration tools and networks, such as the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE), the Strengthening American Democracy action plan template, and the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge
The Texas Voting Summit is a free event for invited students, meaning there is no conference fee for invited students.
In addition to no conference fee, students who will travel from institutions that are 50 miles away from the University of Texas at Austin will receive free hotel accommodations for the night of August 20th, and students who will travel from institutions that are over 225 miles away from the Univerisity of Texas at Austin will receive a travel stipend in addition to free hotel accommodations.
One faculty or staff member is also invited to attend the Summit from invited institutions. However, faculty and staff members must provide their own hotel accommodations and travel.
Invited students, faculty, and staff membered must register to attend the Texas Voting Summit. The registration deadline is Wednesday, July 25, 2018.
