Please join the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life at The University of Texas at Austin and Honorary Event Co-Chairs, Rusty Kelley and Del Williams for Great Conversations 2019: The Renewal of Common Ground on Tuesday, February 26, 2019.
Student leaders from UT and other college campuses across Central Texas will figure prominently in the table conversations this year. Sponsors and other ticket holders will be seated with a student and a distinguished civic or political leader at tables of ten. Your table’s student leader will be equipped to moderate a spirited and civil conversation around civic engagement topics including how we re-establish common ground for civil discussions.
The dinner and discussion will call each of us—whether we hold the title of elected official, parent, teacher, student, volunteer, manager, leader, reporter, officer, artist, technologist, neighbor, or voter—to reflect on our role in defining, living, and spreading civic values such as education and participation in a public arena that is too often marred by incivility, gridlock, and distrust.
Additionally, the evening will feature the presentation of the Shirley Bird Perry Longhorn Citizenship Award to Dr. Larry Faulkner, former President of The University of Texas at Austin and the Houston Endowment, and most recently interim chancellor of The University of Texas System.
