Health Communication Scholars Program: About

The primary purpose of the Health Communication Scholars Program is to improve training of graduate students interested in health communication to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and secure grant funding for research projects. The HCSP is a program of the UT Center for Health Communcation.

The overall model of the program is:

  1. Graduate students interested in participating form an interdisciplinary team. The team must include at least one College of Communication graduate student and one non-College of Communication graduate student.
  2. A grant writing workshop will provide interested students a chance to learn from faculty around campus about the importance of a long-term research agenda, how to seek external funding to support that research agenda, and specific lessons on writing effective proposals.
  3. Student teams will submit proposals for their planned research.  These proposals will be reviewed by a panel of faculty, and the top proposals will receive funding to conduct their research.
