Assistant Director, Center for Health Communication

Location: Austin, TX

The Center for Health Communication (CHC) at the University of Texas at Austin is seeking applicants to fill an Assistant Director position, beginning immediately.

Description of Duties

Program Development and Management: Develop, manage, and contribute to evidence-based health communication programs; assist in the development and processing of grant and contract proposals for funded health communication research projects and practice partnerships; support new health communication education programming opportunities. CHC Leadership Support: Support CHC mission to lead the creation of evidence-based health communication scholarship, education, and community involvement; represent the CHC at on- and off-campus meetings; assist in CHC identity development and management; support CHC Director in long-term strategic planning for the center; assist in developing and maintaining key partnerships across campus and with community partners. Manage CHC Operations: Manage CHC staff and day-to-day operations of the CHC; Ensure work systems are in place as CHC staff team continues to grow; oversee timelines and work involved in executing ongoing CHC programming and events; support CHC Director in budgeting and planning around staff needs; Support CHC communication with affiliated faculty and graduate students.

Required Qualifications

Masters degree in public health, communication, or related field. Knowledge of relevant health communication theory, evidence base, and effective health communication strategies. Population-level health communication program development and implementation evidence-based practitioner. Project/program management experience, including projects of various sizes, scopes, and budgets. 4 or more years of personnel management experience. Prior grant and/or proposal writing. Ability to integrate evidence, strategy, theory, and creativity into projects. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with higher education setting, preferably University of Texas at Austin campus. Experience in working across health topics and communities. 7 or more years experience in personnel and budget management. 2 or more years of experience in an entrepreneurial or start-up environments support communications, culture, and operations functions of the center.
