CATE's Commitment to Inclusive Teaching and Learning

In support of the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of Moody College of Communication and the University of Texas at Austin, the Center for Advancing Teaching Excellence (CATE) is dedicated to supporting inclusive teaching among all members of teaching teams.

Inclusive teaching benefits all students by fostering a welcoming environment where every learner has equitable opportunities to optimize their learning, to feel equally valued, and to achieve their goals. At CATE, we lead with an inclusive teaching approach that permeates all aspects of the resources and services we provide. We take a “small steps” approach to identify and advance strategies for faculty to incrementally implement in their teaching practice.

What can you do?

Inclusive teaching benefits all students and can be incorporated into any and all new and existing courses. There are many small things that you can do to make your classrooms and your teaching more inclusive that don't require a lot of additional time and work. Explore the links below on this section of our website to learn more about how to make your courses more equitable and inclusive for all.

Dr. Ya'Ke Smith, Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion talks about the importance of DEI in Moody classrooms.

Inclusive Teaching Works!

The way that she conducts her class encourages students to challenge stereotypes and boundaries. She is extremely funny and authentic too! [She] is an incredible professor and should be an example to all others in how she creates an inclusive and active community that works together to dissect societal norms.
