About CCS

Communication Career Services (CCS) provides career development and job search assistance to students and alumni of the UT College of Communication.

Our services are designed to help students explore their career options and prepare to start their careers, and to assist students and alumni in managing their careers over the course of their lives.

Our core services include career planning and job search advising; graduate and professional school advising; and job search skills development support and assistance. We also gather and distribute information regarding job and internship opportunities; and offer career exploration programs, career fairs, on-campus interviewing opportunities and resume referral services.

Communication Career Services is a member of the National Association of Colleges & Employers and the Southern Association of Colleges & Employers.

Meet the Staff

Debbie Kubena

Debbie Kubena, Director

Debbie Kubena serves as Director of Communication Career Services at UT Austin. Prior to becoming Director, she was Assistant Director of Communication Career Services. She has been the Pre-Law Advisor since 2004.

Debbie leads the CCS team, provides career advising and pre-law advising to students and alumni, and manages the Wofford Denius Music Industry scholarship program. Prior to joining the CCS staff, she was an Assistant Director for UT Natural Sciences Career Services and the Assistant Director for the Career Resources Center at St. Edward's University. Additionally, Debbie was an off-site supervisor for two campuses at Austin Community College. Debbie has over twenty years experience in the field of career services. She has also conducted extensive research in business, social, and dining etiquette and has been conducting etiquette workshops and dinners since 1995. She earned her BA and MA from St. Edward's University in Austin.

Interesting Fact: Debbie has three passions: dogs, Halloween, and recycling. She also celebrates "Talk Like a Pirate Day" every September 19th.

Victor Casas

Victor Casas, Recruiting Services Coordinator

At CCS, Victor manages on-campus recruiting events and collaborates with employers to design a recruiting plan that best suits their hiring needs. Some of Victor's responsibilities include coordinating career networking events, advising students regarding employers on campus, and managing CCS's employer site visit and career exploration program, Career Connect. Victor has an extensive work history with HEB and his background includes experience with customer service, event planning, accounting, and marketing.

Interesting Fact: Victor taught himself sign language and continuously looks for situations to use those skills. Victor loves to volunteer and spends his spare time with Habitat for Humanity, United Way, The American Diabetes Association, and various city food banks.

Christina Faulkner, Career Advisor

As a Career Advisor, Christina works with students one-on-one to help them identify and pursue their individual career related goals. From exploring options to networking and finding a job, Christina aims to assist students in developing a strategy that fits their unique passions, values, strengths, and dreams.

Before UT CCS, Christina served as a Career Advisor at Syracuse University for four years. While at Syracuse, Christina completed a master’s degree in counseling and is currently a National Certified Counselor. She got her start in Career Services as a student worker at Ithaca College Career Services while earning her bachelor’s degree in anthropology.

Interesting Fact: Christina has hiked to 16,000ft. In her free time, she loves to spend time with her pets (two cats and a dog), doing art projects, trying new restaurants, and visiting galleries & museums.

Megan Vallee

Megan Vallee, Career Advisor

Megan Vallee has been a part of the Moody College of Communication since 2015. She absolutely loves working with and for students. Megan’s goal, as a Career Advisor, is to empower the future scholars, leaders, and humanitarians of our world and help them find their individual paths to greatness. She strives to make career advising an enjoyable and exciting experience.

Megan was born and raised “down in the west Texas town of El Paso”. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at El Paso, studying communication, humanities, and music. While she misses the delicious food and friendly people from home, she’s fallen head over heels for Austin. After a family visit in 2012 to the Texas capitol, she fell in love with the city’s gorgeous vegetation, eclectic people, and passion for the arts. Austin is her haven.

Interesting Fact: While in El Paso, Megan had weekly gigs as a trumpet player for a Ska Band. She loves music – especially jazz standards, art, and a good adventure book. She’s a softie for animals and has a black lab named Winnie.

Ima Longhorn

Ima Longhorn, Career Advisor

Ima Longhorn joined the CCS staff in June 2018 as an online career advisor. Seeking greener pastures, Ima moo-ved to the Austin area early in life. She holds a BS in agricultural studies and earned an advanced degree in career cow-nseling. In addition to her degrees, Ima has many years of experience working in the comoo-nication industry. A career advisor for a 10+ years, Ima is considered to be outstanding in her field, and looks forward to helping Mooooooody students!

Interesting Fact: Ima loves to play with her cow-workers in CCS and her favorite slogan is “Moody College for Heifer and Heifer!” She also loves to stroll through pastures with her cow friends, going to the moo-vies, and long walks on the beach with her boyfriend.
