Dr. Louis Harrison's African American Athlete Conference

The College of Education and TPSM present the second annual scholarly conference, addressing issues of African American racial identity and race-related self-schemata as they relate to athletic performance and physical activity choices. Organized by Dr. Louis Harrison, the conference is a forum to investigate the factors that influence sport and physical activity participation, and identity developmental patterns of African Americans. Participants discuss current research and contemporary scholarship to gain deeper understandings of the racial labels ascribed to particular sports and physical activities, and how these labels affect participation, persistence, effort expended, and performance.
