Moody College of Communication Students Prepare for NBC Sports Internships at 2014 Sochi Olympics

AUSTIN, Texas — Jan. 10, 2014 — During winter break – a time when most college students have been resting and preparing for their spring 2014 courses – two students at The University of Texas at Austin's Moody College of Communication have been gearing up for NBC Sports internships at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Kadriya Gizatullina, a sophomore radio-television-film major, will work as a production assistant, translating information to-and-from her native Russian language. Aleksandra Utterback, a graduate advertising student, will work as a guide, ushering NBC's VIP guests from the airport and through events.

Department of Advertising and Public Relations lecturer Joel Lulla helped facilitate the application process for the internships, which fulfill the internship requirement for Moody College's Sports Media Certificate. Developed by the Department of Advertising and Public Relations, the Sports Media Certificate consists of a sports media-focused internship and 18 hours of coursework.

The internship also complements Moody College's Texas Program in Sports and Media (TPSM), which supports sports-related curriculum development and hosts discussions related to the intersection of sports, media and society.
