UT Speech and Hearing Center Holds Grand Reopening Nov. 6, 2015

AUSTIN, Texas -- Nov. 4, 2015 –– The Moody College of Communication Speech and Hearing Center will celebrate its reopening Friday, Nov. 6, 2015 from 2 - 6 p.m. There will be an open house, a research talk, an opening ceremony and reception.

UT Speech and Hearing Center began in 1941 as the first speech and hearing clinic in the state of Texas and was located in the UT Tower. Now, located on Whitis Avenue the center is reopening its doors for students and the Austin community. The center provides services to individuals in the community as early as infants all the way to seniors with speech, language and hearing disorders and works on a sliding fee scale. This allows the staff at the clinic to treat all clients and act as a resource to the community who otherwise couldn’t afford care.

The Speech and Hearing Center also serves as a training site for students in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Students participate in clinical evaluations, treatments and research through their course assignments and internships. Included in the center are labs with space and equipment for specialized work in clinical audiology, speech science and electrophysiology. As well as videotaping rooms for child language development research.

Referrals and screenings are available and accepted, call 512-471-3841 for more information.
