The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the Moody College of Communication has two graduate disciplines ranked among the top 15 in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report’s 2017 edition of “Best Graduate Schools.”

The rankings show an improvement from 2014 with the master’s in speech language pathology program making a notable shift to no. 7 from no. 10 and the doctorate of audiology program leaping to no. 13 from no. 21. The publication does not rank every discipline every year.

“The department is very proud to be formally recognized for the quality of our programs," said James Booth, professor and chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

“The research, teaching and clinical work that we do every day pushes the envelope of scientific discovery, prepares students to be leaders in their chosen profession and improves the lives of those with communication disorders.”

Other graduate school health programs at UT Austin in this year’s rankings include pharmacy at no. 3, social work at no. 7, clinical psychology at no. 8, and rehabilitation counseling at no. 24.

U.S. News’ graduate rankings are considered among the most celebrated in higher education and are based on the results of peer assessment surveys sent to deans, administrators and faculty at accredited degree programs.
